Hi, my name is Deborah, I am a Sleep coach, Maternity nurse practitioner, Newborn care specialist and Pre and Postnatal support living in Surrey. My hobbies include travelling, reading, baking and spending time with family and friends.

With over 18 years of extensive training and education in the childcare field, with roles varying from pastoral kids worker, childminder, nanny, working with Sure Start as a volunteer, to supporting children with special needs.

I decided to study maternity nursing to provide parents with support and guidance on breastfeeding and sleep techniques and general infant care, reassurance, counselling when needed and rest for all family members.

After experiencing three traumatic births myself and trauma recovery, I studied to become a maternity nurse, antenatal coach and sleep coach to help empower parents with knowledge, guidance and encouragement pre- and post-birth.  I am passionate about supporting parents as well as grandparents! Postpartum recovery matters, and we must change the narrative and help encourage parents to ask for all kinds of support from family, friends and community workers and inspire those around them to offer their support. The postpartum stage is a major transitional phase, physically, emotionally and mentally, and I aim to make your transition to parenthood and beyond as smooth as possible.

My Philosophy

The moment your baby is placed in your arms your life is completely reshaped and your parenting journey begins. Our journey of parenting is like an emotional roller coster, ever-changing with many twists and turns. But my encouragement is that you don’t let the journey ahead overwhelm you. Just take one day at a time on getting to know your body physically heal with rest, good nutrition and mentally adjust to less sleep whilst caring for your precious newborn.

Every parents journey is different, every baby is different and every culture is different so its important to try and not compare your journey or your baby with others. I believe its important to be non-judgemental about parents cultures and beliefs and believe its important to give parents evidence based advise so that they can make informed choices and then support them in those choices. I am passionate about supporting mums/parents with mental health and other medical issues and helping them to navigate these whilst parenting a newborn.

Postnatal recovery matters which is why i feel we need to change the narrative and encourage women/parents to ask for all kinds of support during this period as well as encourage those around them to offer their support. The postpartum stage is a big transitional phase, physically, emotionally and spiritually and as a maternity nurse practitioner, i encourage mums to rest and eat well as well as enjoy social support ( Brene Brown writes : “We don’t have to do it alone, we were never meant too”). Support from partners, friends, family, maternity nurses, health vistitors, midwives are so important to help you recover well. I have supported many mums over the years who have struggled with post natal depression or other medical issues helping them navigate their health struggles whilst parenting. I have helped many families manage their baby’s reflux and sleep, whether this is a Cows ilk protein allergy or general reflux. Feeding and sleep can be affected when a baby suffers from reflux which can be overwhelming and never ending, but there are ways i can holistically help you manage this.
